With the growing presence of the internet, a lot of traditional activities can now be done online, even games. The traditional Bingo is a game that involves using balls that are numbered and cards that have numbers printed on them. One person calls out the numbers from the ball to the players who have the numbered cards, and each player checks to see if he/she has got the numbers. The goal of the traditional bingo is to see the first person who will get five numbers in a row. These days however, there is internet bingo where a player logs on and starts playing. The internet bingo has many advantages over the traditional bingo game. These advantages include:

1. Individuals do not need to leave their house to go to a bingo hall to play. They stay right in comfort of their own homes, in their pajamas and play comfortably in front of their computer. The just need a computer and an internet access.

2. There are no office hours for internet bingo. They are open 24 hours so the convenience of playing at any time without any office hour-restrictions feels good and makes individuals go for the internet bingo.

3. The age restrictions have been lifted. For years, bingo was known to be played by older ladies who went to a bingo hall, but the internet bingo has changed that. Now every age and gender can freely play bingo in front of their computer.

4. The current economic status of the world has cautioned individuals to cut avoidable spending. This includes avoiding traveling unless it is really needed. This has contributed to many individuals reducing at bingo halls and increasing at bingo websites.

5. For the bingo companies, it is far cheaper to run a bingo website than a bingo hall; there is less utilities to pay and far less employees to pay to manage the website activities than to manage the bingo hall activities. Continue reading »

How baby shower bingo saved my life :) … I’ve had the fortune/misfortune to host 11 different baby showers in the past three years thanks to co-workers, friends, and family members getting pregnant (when you’re at the age, everyone is doing it). One thing I’ve learned is that games are absolutely essential to keeping the party moving forward and making sure everyone is having a good time. I know of almost no other time when people will be coming together for such an intimate party, yet having so many people possibly not knowing each other. My last baby shower I held had mother-in-laws trying to talk with 18-year-old office friends of the mommy-to-be, talking with cousins from across the state. It was awkward. That is, until…

Until I got the games out, everyone was just standing around making really bad small talk. But then I opened up a few bottles of wine (none for the mommy-to-be) and started a game of Baby Shower Bingo. Everyone knows how to play so we went straight into the game. And after the ladies saw that they could win some nice prizes (top prize was a $30 gift certificate to Victoria’s Secret, but we had lots of $5 gcs to Starbucks).

The wine helped a lot too, and a few of the ladies started getting pretty animated and at one point, someone fell out of her chair trying to be the first person to yell BABY SHOWER BINGO! We all had a great laugh.

I’ve found the best way to do baby shower bingo is to just buy the pre-made cards online. There are lots of places to get free ones, but they looked terrible when I downloaded them, and I just didn’t have time to make my own for the last party. I’d made my own in the past, but after just buying some, it was so easy that I’ll never go back.

I hope this helps a few of you out there, games are the key and can be lots of fun with the help of a little wine and some fun prizes.

Most adults are familiar with the game of bingo. Most of us have either played it ourselves, or at least seen it played. For those few people who have not, the rules are simple and easily learned – you are given a bingo card which is printed with a grid of numbers, and cross off squares as the numbers are called out by the bingo caller – the goal is to be the first person to achieve a winning pattern of crossed out squares (the exact definition of the a winning pattern varies depending on the variant of the game being played).

One thing that you may not have considered however is because bingo is so simple, it can be played by children, and with just a few modifications can easily be adapted into a powerful but flexible learning aid. Many teachers have noticed this (not to mention the fact that bingo does not require expensive materials or specialist resources), and thus have introduced variants of the game into their classrooms. Today bingo is being used to teach a variety of K-12 school subjects including English (vocabulary, reading, etc.), math, foreign languages, and even science and history.

In most classroom variants of bingo, the game is played using bingo cards printed with items chosen by teacher. Additionally, game play may be modified somewhat. For example, in a vocabulary version of bingo, the bingo cards contain words that the teacher wants students to learn, the teacher calls out definitions of words rather than the words themselves, and the students must match the definitions to the words. Similar ideas can be used for reading practise, math problems, and foreign languages (calling out words in one language and require students to match printed words in another).

The main requirement for all these educational variants of bingo is the ability for the teacher to give each student a bingo card with items appropriate for the particular lesson. Fortunately this is quite easy – a PC and some bingo cards generator software can print a set of bingo cards containing whatever types of items the teacher wants, in just a few minutes.
