Most people are familiar with the game of bingo. Even those people who have never played bingo, probably do know how the game is played. However, just in case you are one of those rare few who don’t know how to play, he are instructions:

1. One person acts as the bingo caller (and referee), the others act as players.

2. Each of the players is given a bingo card containing a grid of squares (normally 5 by 5, but other sizes may be used), with each square containing a different number.

3. The bingo caller calls out the numbers in a random order, and players mark off the squares containing that number from their cards.

4. The player’s objective is to get a row, column or diagonal of squares marked off (or in some variants, other shapes or all the items on the card). When a player achieves this he shouts “Bingo!”, and the first who shouts this is the winner.

There are of course many variants of the game, and it is these variants that are bringing bingo to the attention of a much wider audience. Some examples of these include:

- Baby Shower Bingo – Played as a baby shower game, using bingo cards printed with items related to babies.

- Wedding Shower Bingo – Played at wedding and bridal showers, this time using bingo cards with items related weddings.

- Holiday Bingo – Bingo played on special occasions such as Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day, July 4th, Halloween or Thanksgiving – however themed for the day by using bingo cards containing items relating to the particular holiday.

- Educational Bingo – Bingo is also as increasingly popular activity with teachers and educators. Educational variants of bingo are commonly played in schools, colleges, Sunday schools, and in ESL classes. Once again specially printed bingo cards are used, be it with words student must learn to read, math problems, names of countries or cities, chemical elements, or anything else.

The common thread running through all these different variants of bingo, is that non-standard bingo cards are used. In some cases, it may be possible to order preprinted cards from a specialist publisher, although this can get expensive fast! In other cases, preprinted cards may simply not be available. As a result, usually the best option is for the game organizer to prepare the bingo cards – fortunately with the help of a computer and suitable bingo card maker software, this can be a quick and easy job.

By: Sunil Tanna

As you probably know, Saint Valentine’s Day (often known as simply as “Valentine’s Day”) is a holiday celebrated on February 14th. On this day, it is common for lovers to exchange cards, gifts or flowers, for proposals of marriage to be made, and people to give to charity, or give each other candy.

These days of course, children also want to get into the spirit of Saint Valentine’s Day. Kids love to create Valentine’s crafts, send each other Valentine’s Day greeting cards, and play Valentine’s games. Parents and teachers will therefore want to be on the lookout for activities and games that are suitable for February 14th.

One idea for a suitable activity is to play bingo. However, instead of using bingo cards containing numbers, cards containing words chosen specially for the occasion (such as “Admirer”, “Chocolates”, “Cupid”, “Kiss”, “Perfume” or “Sweet Heart”) are used instead. The kids are each given their own bingo card, the teacher or parent acts as caller, and you’re ready to play! The beauty of bingo, is that it’s easy to learn and play, can be tied in with the theme of the day, and, most importantly, is a lot of fun!

Of course in order to play the game, the main obstacle that needs to be overcome is getting suitable bingo cards. In the past, this was often a problem as you had to send off for preprinted cards, and these weren’t always cheap or easy to obtain. Today, however things are much easier – parents and teachers can simply print bingo cards from their computer: free Valentine’s bingo printables are available on the Internet, or you can download affordable and easy-to-use software which makes it incredibly easy to print custom bingo cards.

By: Sunil Tanna

If you want to play bingo, of course you need bingo cards – one for each player. However, as far as traditional bingo (the game played using bingo cards printed with numbers) is concerned, there is probably no desperate need to create the cards yourself. However these days, the traditional game is not the be all and end all of bingo. More and more people are taking to playing themed versions of the game, and these versions of bingo require custom cards printed with words or phrases relating to the particular theme, rather than the traditional numbered cards.

Perhaps the most popular themed versions of bingo are those based around holidays and seasonal events. For example, you could play versions of bingo tying in with any secular or religious occasion, be it Christmas, July 4th, President’s Day, Columbus Day, Easter, Halloween, St. Valentine’s Day, or for that matter, any other day too. Whatever the occasion, all you need is bingo cards printed with items relating to the theme, so things like “Egg” and “Resurrection” for Easter, “Black Cat” and “Witch” for Halloween, and “Nativity” and “Silent Night” for Christmas.

Themed versions of bingo are also popular in educational environments, especially K-12 and English as Second Language. In this situation, the teacher picks a theme based on the subject and lesson plan, and students play bingo in class. Game play can also be varied to enhance the educational content of the game, so in a math class, the bingo cards might be printed with math problems and the students required to write in the answers rather than simply mark off squares, and in a foreign language class, these could be made in one language which students must match against cards printed in another language.

Regardless of the theme or the reason for playing, the main thing that is needed to play is of course the custom bingo cards. The best way to prepare custom ones is to get your computer to do the work – using bingo card maker software, you can print an unlimited quantity of cards, on any topic you like, with consummate ease.

By: Sunil Tanna

Most people have played bingo at some point in their lives, but even those of us who have never played the game, generally do know how to play the game.

Traditionally bingo is played using cards containing a grid of squares (usually but not always a grid of 5 X 5 squares), with each square containing a different number. Each player is given one of these bingo cards, and the objective of the game is to mark off a row, column or diagonal of squares (in some versions, the objective is to obtain multiple lines, another square, or even get all squares marked off). Squares on the cards are marked off by the players when the bingo caller (who also acts as referee) calls out the corresponding number.

Bingo has undergone something of a renaissance in popularity in the last few years. While the traditional game remains popular, new variants of bingo are reaching new audiences. In each case, these variants of the game are played using bingo cards containing custom items related to a particular topic, rather than the standard numbered bingo cards.

Some examples include:

- Holiday bingo, using bingo cards with words and phrases themed around a particular holiday be it New Year, Valentine’s Day, July 4th, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas.

- Wedding and baby shower bingo is a popular activity on these social events. Bingo cards containing items related to brides, weddings, or babies, are used as applicable.

- Educational bingo is getting more and more popular with teachers. Versions of the game can be produced for almost any type of class including English (including K12 and ESL), math, science, history, geography or even religious studies. Game play may also be varied by the teacher, so for example in math bingo, cards containing math problems may be used and students must write in the answers to these problems rather than simply tick off the squares.

In order to play any of these variants of the game, you will of course need bingo cards printed with the appropriate themed items. These are not always easy to obtain for every possible topic, and even when available can be expensive. Therefore the best option for most people is to simply print them using a computer and appropriate bingo card generator software.

By: Sunil Tanna

Pretty much everybody knows how to play bingo right? Each player gets a card containing a grid of numbers (usually a 5 by 5 grid with a special “free space” square in the middle), the bingo announcer calls out numbers in random order, plays check off the corresponding numbers from their bingo cards, and the first player to get an agreed upon pattern (usually a line of five in any direction regardless of whether it’s horizontal, vertical or diagonal), is a the winner. You can buy ready-made bingo cards, so why would anybody make to make their own bingo cards?

The answer lies in the fact that themed variants of the standard game have become massively more popular in the bingo cards. In themed versions of bingo, the bingo cards are not printed with numbers, but instead are printed with words, phrases, or even math problems.

Probably the most popular themed versions of the game are those based around particular holidays such as Christmas, St. Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween or July 4th (US Independence Day). In these variants, they are printed with words or phrases relating to the particular holiday in question, so items like “Angel”, “Santa Claus” and “Yule” would be used for Christmas bingo, whereas as words like “Heart”, “Love” or “Romance” would be used for St. Valentine’s Day bingo.

Versions of bingo using custom bingo cards are also popular in education. Teachers can prepare them based around any subject or lesson plan, and can also vary game play, for example by calling out “clues” and requiring students to find the corresponding word or phrase. In language classes, bingo calls can be made in one language, and students required to match the corresponding word in another language.

In math classes, these can be printed with math problems in each square, and students can be required to write in the correct answer when an item is called, rather than merely tick off a square. Of course, even the standard game mechanics can be suitable for classroom use in the right situation – for example, an essential part of learning to read fluently is learning to quickly recognize common words (known as “sight words”) – and this can be practiced by playing sight word bingo.

By: Sunil Tanna

At some point in their lives, most people have played the game of bingo, but even those who haven’t probably do know how to play the game. Even if you don’t know however, it’s very easy to learn!

1. One person acts as the bingo caller and referee.

2. The other participants are all players.

3. Each of the players is given a bingo card containing a grid of squares, each square containing a number.

4. The bingo caller calls out numbers in a random order, and the players mark off any square on their cards which matches the number.

5. When a player gets a complete line across his card (vertical, horizontal or diagonal), he calls out “Bingo!”. The first player to call bingo is the winner.

6. If you prefer a longer game, instead of a single winning line you can require two or more complete lines, or even players to mark off every single item on their bingo card.

So far so good – you’re probably already familiar with all the above. Today however, variations on the standard game, most frequently using bingo cards containing customized items based around a particular theme (instead of numbers), are growing in popularity.

Some examples include:

- Bingo has become very popular with teachers. This is because it can be adapted to almost any lesson or subject, and thus become a fun as well as educational classroom activity.

- Holiday bingo is played using cards relating to a particular holiday. For example a Christmas-themed game would be played using cards containing words like “angel”, Bethlehem or “shepherds”. Of course there are many other holidays around the year which can be used to inspire specially themed bingo games, including New Year, Valentine’s Day, July 4th, and Halloween.

- Wedding and baby shower bingo are also growing in popularity. As you might expect, these variants are played using words relating to weddings or babies.

If you fancy playing any of these versions of bingo, you will of course need bingo cards relating to your chosen theme. While it may be possible to obtain preprinted cards for certain (not all!) themes from a specialist publisher, the cheapest and most flexible option is almost certainly to print them yourself using your computer. If you use some bingo card creator software, you can simply put in a list of the possible items, and the software will generate as many different cards as you want.

By: Sunil Tanna

One of the attractions of bingo is that while being a lot of fun, it is also incredibly easy to learn how to play. If you get a bingo card and show it to somebody, you can explain how to play the game in just a few minutes.

In the traditional game of bingo, each player is given a bingo card containing an array of squares arranged in a 5 by 5 grid. Each square on the card contains a different number, and players mark off squares from the cards as numbers are called out by the bingo caller. While this basic game can be a lot of fun, more and more people are today turning to variants of the game. Using a computer and bingo card maker software, it’s very easy to print custom bingo cards with squares containing words, phrases, or even math problems, instead of numbers.

With so many people getting together, holidays are in fact a perfect opportunity to play bingo. Obviously if playing on (or in the run-up) to one of these holidays, it’s more fun to play using bingo cards themed around the holiday. Whether it be Christmas, Easter, St. Valentine’s Day, New Year, July 4th, Halloween, or any other holiday, you can play bingo – in each case picking words or phrases for the cards that relate to the particular holiday in question.

Many teachers are also turning to bingo as a classroom activity. The game is well suited to use in schools, since it can be adapted in a wide variety of different ways, game play mechanics can be varied, and of course cards on literally any theme or subject can be prepared. Younger students can benefit from bingo by practising reading the items on the cards, in math lessons, students can be required to write in answers to problems rather than simply mark off squares, and in language lessons students can be required to recognize items written in one language when bingo calls are made in another.

By: Sunil Tanna

If you ask around, I’m sure that you will find that most people have played bingo at some point in their lives. You’ll probably encounter a few folks who say that have never played the game, but the chances are that majority of them will in fact know how the game is played.

The classical game of bingo is played used bingo cards containing numbers (the numbers are normally placed in small squares, and these squares arranged in a five by five grid). Each player’s objective is to be the first to cross off a line of five items diagonally, horizontally or vertically on their card, but the numbers can only be crossed off when called out by the bingo caller. While the classical game remains popular with many people, themed versions of the game (using custom bingo cards) have also come into vogue in recent years. In themed versions of the game, instead of numbers, words or phrases are printed of the cards.

Perhaps the most popular themed versions of bingo are those relating to holidays, to be used on those occasions. For example a bingo card containing words like “Nativity” or “Sleigh” might be used at Christmas, and one containing words such as “Heart” or “Romance” on Valentine’s Day.

Another situation in which bingo is popular is in education. The game is well suited to English, foreign languages, history, geography, science and math lessons. Once again appropriately themed bingo cards should be used – in this case prepared in advance by the teacher. Teachers can also vary game play, for example, by in a French lesson by calling out words in French, and requiring students to find the corresponding English item printed on their bingo card (or vice-versa), or in a math lesson printing the bingo cards with math problems, and requiring students to write in the answers rather than simply cross off squares.

By: Sunil Tanna

Bingo is one of those games that pretty much everybody knows how to play. Most people have probably played the game at some point in their life, but even those who haven’t, generally do know the rules. In case you’re one of those rare people who don’t know the game, here’s a quick recap:

1. Each player is given a bingo card, usually (but not always) 5 x 5 squares. Each of these squares contains a different item – in tradition bingo a number, but in the various themed variants of the game, words, phrases, names, dates, or even math problems may be used.

2. One person acts as the bingo caller and referee. That person calls out items in random order.

3. As the items are called out, players inspect their cards and look for matching squares, and mark off any that they find. In many versions of the game, the center square is a “free space”, and players can mark that square off whenever they want.

4. Usually the objective of the game is to be the first player to get a line of items horizontally, vertically or diagonally on the card, and call out “Bingo!”. The rules can be varied however so that other shapes such as two lines, a postage stamp, or even marking off all squares on the card, is required before “Bingo” can be claimed.

While it’s true that many people do enjoy the traditional game using numbers, themed variants relating to holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, Easter or Valentine’s Day are increasingly popular. Additionally, the game can easily be adapted to educational use and is increasingly popular in schools (including K-12) and English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching environments.

In order to play a themed version of bingo, you will of course need bingo cards printed containing the appropriate items for the theme. Many people consider this is a stumbling block since preparing bingo cards by hand is very time consuming, and preprinted bingo cards may not be expensive or even impossible to obtain. There is however a simple solution to this conundrum: simply print custom bingo cards using your computer – with suitable bingo card creator software, it’s very easy and straightforward.

By: Sunil Tanna
